Carpet in Grand Prairie's Newer Two-Story Homes
Far south Grand Prairie grew into master-planned subdivisions after Joe Pool Lake reached full pool in 1989. Mira Lagos homes date from the mid-2000s onward, and Grand Peninsula's sections started going up in the early 2000s. Many are two-story houses, some well over 3,000 square feet, with carpet across the whole second floor. After 15 to 20 years, original builder carpet tends to give out first on the stairs and along the upstairs hall, and the cushion under it has usually flattened.
When we replace it, the cushion matters as much as the carpet. A firm, dense pad keeps a big upstairs room from flexing and loosening, and it helps stair carpet hold up at the nosing, where wear is worst. Second floors also run warm on a Grand Prairie summer afternoon, and warm carpet relaxes, which is one more reason a tight stretch matters. If your family spends summer weekends at the white sand beach at Lynn Creek Park, you know how much sand rides home. Grit cuts carpet fiber faster than foot traffic alone, so a hard-surface drop zone at the garage door and regular vacuuming upstairs will add years to new carpet.
