Carpet in Mansfield's Bedroom-Heavy Homes
Census estimates count about 15,300 Mansfield homes, close to half the total, with four or more bedrooms, and more than 5,300 with five or more (American Community Survey, 2024). That adds up to a lot of carpet per house. In a newer home, the original carpet was often chosen to fit a builder's budget, which tends to mean a thin pad and a lighter carpet that flattens in the traffic lanes within a few years, first on the stairs and along the upstairs hall.
New houses are still going up across the city. About 5,000 of today's homes were built in 2020 or later, and roughly 15 percent of residents moved within the past year (American Community Survey, 2024). If you are about to move in, or just did, that is a practical time to upgrade: empty rooms mean no furniture to shift, a faster install and less labor on the bill. When you replace builder carpet, the cushion is where the money pays off, since a denser pad holds the stretch longer and protects the backing at stair nosings.
